New Zealand Gathering - Waipu 2018 

The Menzies Clan Gathering in New Zealand takes place every second year, alternating between the North Island and South Island. Following two very successful Gatherings at the Kapiti Coast in 2014, and Westport in 2016, this year it is the turn of the North Island again.

The 2018 Gathering will take place in the beautiful location of Waipu, North of Auckland.

     
 
     
 
 
     

Dates - 20 - 22 April 2018

A great program is arranged for the Menzies Clan gathering based in Waipu 2018 and centred at the Celtic Barn (a beautiful new hall and facilities) located in the Caledonian Park, Waipu.

We’ve got the accommodation, we’ve got the venue, piper and band for the dinner, ceilidh and brunch/lunch and we’ve got the interesting and fun activities planned, but now we need the participants.....YOU!!

A programme of local and historical sites, in as close a likeness to how they were when first discovered, has been put together for you to enjoy, beautiful beaches, gift shopping, and cultural activities.

This is again going to be a wonderful opportunity to meet your relations, make new acquaintances, background and history, and renew old friendships while enjoying some really interesting visits, not to mention food, wine.. and

Programme for the 2018 New Zealand Gathering

Friday, 20 April 2018.

Meet at the Celtic Barn, Waipu from 4 p.m. onwards. Welcome shout. Light supper available at the Celtic Barn.

Choice of Cafes within a short walking distance. Tea & coffee FOC when at the Celtic Barn.

Free bus from Auckland expected to arrive 7:30pm or later depending on traffic.

Saturday, 21 April 2018.

Breakfast by own arrangement

- There is a light breakfast available at Celtic Barn Kitchen, self-service ($5)

All programs are from Celtic Barn and returning to same.

Morning.

8:00 a.m.

- Mini Bus circulating. Returning 11:30 a.m. (Cost $5- per person return)

Beach, Birdwatching, Caves and sights. (The route of the bus will be arranged when numbers and places of interest are selected).

8:30 a.m.

- 44 seat bus tour to Matakohe Kauri Museum. Returns at 11:30am. Cost $5-per person return, plus museum entry fee payable direct to the museum.

Other transport (shuttle) options at local prices. (These will be listed closer to the time).

Lunch 11:30 a.m. onwards.

Lunch own arrangements, cafes a very short walk away.

- Light lunch available in the Celtic Barn Kitchen, self-service ($5-)

Afternoon.

1 - 2pm

- Highland Folk dancing practice and fun with the Twisty Willow Band, free of charge.

- Leaving at 1pm: 44 seat Bus tour to Matakohe Kauri Museum. Returns at 5 p.m. Cost $5 per person return, plus museum entry fee.

- Mini Bus circulating, cost $5 per person return.
Destinations include: Beaches, Caves, Birdwatching, Historical sites, NZ Refining at Marsden Point.

Evening.

6 p.m.

- Get together, Haggis, dinner and ceilidh evening.

This includes:

- Pipers, the Chief''s 2 New Zealand Commissioners and the Clan Council New Zealand Representative.

- The Haggis and the Address to the Haggis.

- Dinner (2 meats and Vegetarian, with desert. Some wine will be on the tables for toasting, and more can be purchased).

- Speakers.

- Twisty Willow Band music and dancing.

Sunday, 22 April 2018.

Morning.

8:00am

- Mini bus to the Beach/Bird watching and morning walk, cost $5 per person return.
(We will look at including the other local sites where they can be fitted into the timescale).

10:15 a.m.

- Service and Kirking of the Tartan with Rev Tom Waight.

- Handing over the Saltre.

- Followed by some "Clan Fun Games".

Farewell Lunch.

12:30pm

- Light lunch in the Celtic Barn.

Event Farewell.

Evening.

For those staying on, as usual there will be dinner out at the pub TBA, at own cost.
